MediPOS vs Oscar: which is better for a pharmacy in 2026?

MediPOS vs Oscar is a comparison worth making, because Oscar's own blog calls it the best pharmacy software in Pakistan and ranks well for that search. Both are Pakistani, both handle batches and expiry with the earliest expiry sold first, and both say they report to FBR. The differences come in what you can check before you buy: MediPOS publishes its prices and runs offline on the shop PC; Oscar's website publishes no price and does not say, on its Pakistani pages, that it bills without internet.

This comparison takes Oscar's features from its own website, oscar.pk and its pharmacy page, and MediPOS's from our pricing page, all checked on 27 September 2026.

The short answer

• Price you can see: MediPOS starts at Rs 12,000 a year (Offline) or Rs 2,500 a month (Cloud). Oscar publishes no price; its pricing page did not load, and its site offers "Start free".
• Billing without internet: the MediPOS Windows app runs on the shop PC with no internet. Oscar's Pakistani pages describe "one cloud POS"; only its Qatar website's FAQ says it works offline.
• Medicines ready on day one: MediPOS comes with 45,000+ Pakistani medicines from the DRAP register. Oscar's website mentions no medicine list.
• Distributor schemes and udhaar limits: in MediPOS; Oscar lists credit sales but no bonus schemes.
• Both sell by tablet, strip or box, alert on expiry and sell the earliest expiry first, and run several branches with stock transfers.

Price: published, or on request

MediPOS publishes every plan. Offline runs on your own shop PC: Basic is Rs 12,000 a year for up to 2 PCs, and Standard Rs 20,000 a year for up to 5. Cloud runs in the browser: Basic Rs 2,500 a month or Rs 25,000 a year, Standard Rs 5,500 a month or Rs 55,000 a year for up to three branches, and Chain Rs 15,000 a month for up to ten. Every plan includes the medicine database and FBR integration, and there is a 14-day free trial.

Oscar does not publish a price. Its pricing page returned "not found" when we checked, and its site invites you to "Start free". Other vendors describe Oscar's free option as limited, but we could not confirm that on Oscar's own site. Ask Oscar for a written quote that includes FBR, branches and any mobile app.

Offline on the shop PC, or cloud

The MediPOS Offline edition installs on the shop's Windows PC with its own database. Counter PCs connect over the shop network, and billing, stock, udhaar and printing need no internet. It backs up every night, at every cash-shift close and before every update, and updates install themselves.

Oscar's pharmacy page describes "one cloud POS", a tablet POS and a mobile app. Its Pakistani pages do not say that it bills without internet. Its Qatar website's FAQ says "Oscar POS will work in offline mode, but you need to connect to the internet if you need to create a backup". If your line drops often, ask Oscar to show billing with the internet unplugged.

Pharmacy features

Both products cover the core of a pharmacy counter:

• Units: Oscar sells "by tablet, strip, or full box"; MediPOS sells box, strip and tablet from one stock.
• Expiry: Oscar tracks batch and expiry with alerts at 30, 60 and 90 days, uses FEFO, and has expiry reports for returns to distributors. MediPOS sells the batch that expires first, blocks expired batches at the counter, and shows expiry at 7, 30, 60 and 90 days with its value.
• Branches: both run several branches with stock transfers and roles.

Where MediPOS goes further:

• Medicines: 45,000+ Pakistani medicines from the DRAP register come preloaded, with generic, strength, form and manufacturer; you can try the search. Oscar searches by "medicine name or generic formula" but mentions no preloaded list.
• Distributor schemes: MediPOS spreads 10+1 bonuses, discounts, tax and freight into the landed cost, so profit is right. Oscar does not mention bonus schemes.
• Udhaar: MediPOS keeps customer credit limits, statements and aging, with a supervisor's PIN over a limit. Oscar lists "cash, card, and credit sales".
• Backups: MediPOS's backups are described above; Oscar's website does not describe its backups.

Where Oscar is ahead

• Retail and restaurants too: Oscar is built for retail and restaurants as well, so one system can cover a pharmacy with a café or general store beside it.
• A tablet POS and mobile apps: it offers a tablet POS, and its Qatar FAQ lists Android and iOS apps. The MediPOS Owner app is for Android only, and billing is on the PC or in the browser.
• A free start: Oscar offers "Start free"; MediPOS offers a 14-day free trial.
• Hospital pharmacies: Oscar's blog describes integration with hospital pharmacies.

Choose Oscar if you run a pharmacy alongside a restaurant or retail business, want a tablet POS, and are comfortable in the cloud. Get the price and the offline answer in writing.

Does Oscar work offline?

Its Pakistani website does not say so; its Qatar website's FAQ says it works offline and needs internet for backups. MediPOS Offline bills without internet on the shop PC.
