The Windows app for MediPOS online

Use MediPOS online (medipos.pk) in the MediPOS Windows app: install it, sign in, print receipts silently with the cash drawer, and what happens when the internet drops.

A pharmacy on MediPOS online can work in any browser. On a counter PC, the MediPOS Windows app is better. It opens in its own window, sends receipts straight to the thermal printer with no print dialog, opens the cash drawer on cash bills, and updates itself. Your data stays online at medipos.pk, exactly as in the browser. This guide is for the owner or whoever sets up the counter PCs.

Before you start

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Windows 7 and 32-bit Windows are not supported.
  • Your MediPOS online account. It is the same email or mobile number and password you use at medipos.pk. A new pharmacy can sign in once the MediPOS team has approved it.
  • An internet connection at the counter. MediPOS online needs the internet for every bill. Keep a mobile hotspot ready for when the line drops.
  • The thermal printer, connected by USB or on the shop network, with its Windows driver installed. See Setting up a thermal receipt printer.

How to install the app

  1. Download the installer from medipos.pk and run it. Choose Yes when Windows asks for permission.
  2. On How is this PC used?, choose MediPOS online account (medipos.pk).
  3. Keep the suggested folder and finish the installer.
  4. Open MediPOS from the desktop. It connects to MediPOS online and shows the sign-in window.

Nothing about your pharmacy is stored on this PC. The installer adds the app and a small MediPOS service that prints receipts and installs updates. Your sign-in is kept encrypted for this Windows user when you tick Keep me signed in.

Signing in

Sign in with your email or mobile number and password. If two-step sign-in is on, enter the code from your authenticator app. If you work in several branches, choose the branch; you can switch later from the top bar.

For busy counters, the owner can register the PC as a counter in Settings → Counter PCs. Staff then sign in with their 4–6 digit PIN instead of a password. See Counter PIN and supervisor approval.

Printing receipts and the cash drawer

  1. Open Settings → POS & receipts.
  2. Under Receipt printer on this PC, choose the printer, the paper width and the characters per line.
  3. Press Print test page. Tick Open the cash drawer with the test page to check the drawer too.
  4. Press Save printer.

After each sale the receipt prints by itself (when Print the receipt as soon as the sale is saved is ticked), with the FBR invoice number and QR code when FBR reporting is switched on. The receipt comes with the sale, so it still prints if the internet drops straight after the bill.

With the app installed, MediPOS online in a browser on the same PC prints silently too, through the same service.

If the MediPOS service is not running, receipts print on the Windows default printer instead, with no cash drawer. Restart the PC; if it keeps happening, run the installer again.

When the internet drops

  • Before F12: searching and adding medicines wait for the connection. Scanned barcodes are kept in order and added as the answers come back.
  • At F12: if the connection drops while the sale is being saved, the POS says the sale may already be saved and locks the bill. Press F12 again when the connection is back: the same sale is sent again and is never saved twice. Or press Clear: MediPOS checks whether it has the sale. If it does, the sale is shown as done and its receipt prints. If not, the bill opens again.
  • When the app starts: it waits up to 45 seconds for the connection, then shows what to check. If it says the connection could not be made securely, check that the PC's date and time are correct.

Updates

The MediPOS service checks for updates by itself and installs them in the background. The new version opens the next time you start MediPOS. Your data is not touched: it is online.

Rules and tips

  • One pharmacy per sign-in. To work in another pharmacy, sign out and sign in again.
  • Switching branch clears the bill on screen, because prices and stock are per branch.
  • The app signs you out after the time set under Sign-out after inactivity in Settings, like the website.
  • FBR reporting uses FBR's online API. The FBR Fiscal Component option belongs to MediPOS Offline on the shop's own PC.

Common questions

Do I need the Windows app to use MediPOS online?

No. Everything works in a browser. The app adds silent receipt printing, the cash drawer, automatic updates and a window of its own.

Is my data on this PC?

No. Bills, stock, udhaar and reports stay on MediPOS online. If this PC breaks, install the app on another PC and sign in.

Can a counter PC of MediPOS Offline use MediPOS online?

Not at the same time. A PC is set up for one of the three roles in the installer: the main PC of MediPOS Offline, a counter PC of it, or MediPOS online. To move a PC to another role, run the installer again and choose the new one.

The app says it cannot reach MediPOS online. What should I check?

Check that the PC has internet, for example by opening medipos.pk in a browser. Check that the PC's date and time are right. If the browser works but the app does not, a firewall or antivirus may be blocking MediPOS; allow it.
